so as mister monks has commented it has been great so far and the scouts are wrecked. not to mention the leaders are wrecked too. we have finally got access to some interweb so we shall upload loads soon keep it real Greenhills missing you all

Day two Crawfordsburn

HIYA!!!!!!
Its Ashleigh, Mary Ruth and Aoife again. We got up today at 8 am with a busy day ahead of us. our activities today were rock climbing and Crate stacking. they were really good. some of us were like spiders and Eoin Murphy was the best at climbing with absolutely no fear at the climbing and the crate stacking. both activities were in the Lid which is the big wet weather shelter that is here in the scout centre. Millsie and Lauren did our shopping today. There was sooooooo much food. they had to divide it out between all the patrols. what a job . hate to be them. after dinner, which was spagetti bolognaise. we had a big dessert of swiss roll and custard. after dinner we played a massive game of football with two other troops staying in crawfordsburn!! the groups were Ballbriggan and skerries scouts. we lost terribly and Mo was not happy at all. Its getting late and there are no lights in the tent Night xxxx

day 1 crawfordsburn

well what a busy day. we met at the den at the at 8.30 am and we all helped ciara, Paula, Millsie and the other leaders pack the van. we then set off on our long journey. we got the 15A with Lauren, John and Mossy while Millsie and Monkey drove up in the BEAST!!!! we got the 11 am train to Belfast and it was great fun and went without a hitch , well our journey anyway!!!! Millsie and Monkey got a flat tyre and then had to jump to action to held a lady at a road traffic accident in Co. Louth. Nobody was really hurt but the leaders did us proud calming the situation. we got to Crawfordsburn scout centre at 4pm. when we got there the leaders got us to unpack the van and start on the site. our site is really cool it is at the back of the main camping field in a foresty part. the leaders broke us up into 4 patrols, our patrols are all shapes, Diamonds, squares, circles and triangles. Mo, Carl, Lil C and Danny were are the PL’s. we are to cook, clean and participate in our patrol challenges. we fell into bed at 11pm absolutely wrecked.

Hows about ya??

just a quick update from crawfordsburn. All is going well and with a week of camping and scout related nonsense to go spirts high. So far we’ve been rock climbing, crate stacking, rafting, sky running???, orienteering, bowling, not to mention saving a princess while doing archery.

Sorry for the lack of blog but we have no internet access here on site, but with a trip to Mc Donalds tomorrow while sightseeing in Belfast we should have the first few days blogs uploaded.( I wonder which the scouts will want to see more,The Giant yellow cranes of Harland and wolff or the yellow M of Mc Donalds)

Final preps and final prayers

Its less then 8 hours till the 65th Greenhills hit the road again on our continuing misadventures. Crawfordsburn and the rest of the north won’t know what hit them after we’re done. its a little tense at the moment due to the madness up north on the 12th but all going well it will be happy out and plain sailing. all the scouts are set, all the gear is set and hopefully all the leaders are set. let the good times roll and lets have a good one. the weather report for day one is……….. FOWL!!! but with high spirits we’ll be walking on sunshine!

2010 Crawfordsburn!!!!!

well its that time of year again… after the stress of exams and the fun in the sun its time to go camping!! after an amazing trip to Kandersteg last year it has been a hard one to beat. This year the scout group will be travelling to Crawfordsburn Co. Down. this year the scouts will be participating in a full on program that encompasses the New ONE program and that is action packed. the leaders will be giving it stacks all the way too. here goes to another fun camp and happy times. Annual camp this year is from Monday the 19th of July to Thursday the 29th of July. parents please note meeting in the den at 08.30 am on monday morning, Bus fare required.

Homeward Bound

Last minute reminder. Flight arrives at Dublin Airport at 10:35am tomorrow. Flight number is SWISS (LX) 400.

Just a quick update tonight as we are robbing, eh ‘borrowing’ the neighbours wi-fi. Lots of travelling today, three trains and two buses. Another Yog classic as we nearly missed a train due to jamming a locker at the left luggage dept in Zurich Airport.

We are staying in a lovely Scout Den in Brütten, near to Zurich for the morning. Neil’s Scout contact doesn’t seem to speak a word of German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portugese or English, but thanks to the international language of charades, we’re getting by.

We finished the week off with a slap-up meal in the local restaurant (where we hit the same language barrier) but the lads all seemed to know exactly where the pizza & ice-cream were on the menu.

We’re up for 5am so better log-off, see ya in the morning.

Discos & Dinner

Disco!!
So we all got dolled up and headed down to the Disco. Well most of us (tut tut Mo). Suits and moshing aplenty, which are a bad combo (not to be confused with Danny’s haircut which was a bad combover). Congratulations to Amy & Gina, who travelled all the way to Switzerland, only to be chasing two boyos from Clontarf…. Moshing wasn’t the only dance of the night, with Ashleigh & Aoife starting a hall wide Macarena. The party went on till twelve, and even the male leaders got back to camp from their night out before some of the Scouts did.

Thursday
We awoke to another ridiculously early start (does it ever end?). We were then told that we were going to Adelboden, a town a good hour and twenty minutes bus journey away. It would have been a twenty minute train journey, but Yog never thought that a train station might sell bus tickets, so we had to sweat it out for eighty minutes. We were then brought to a high rope adventure centre, with ziplines, abseiling and a very high rope bridge. We got back to site at about seven o’clock and changed for the formal dinner.

After eating, the awards were given out. The lions once again got best patrol, Mo got best PL, Con picked up Best scout on camp, John got a special category award for the novice and surprisingly I got scout of the year. Everyone was given a Kandersteg mini-adventure souvenier badge and some of us who done that death march, em, hike to 2800 metres got a Kandersteg high adventure badge. Amy and Determo presented Ciara with a knife bought by the Scouts and engraved with Camp Chief ‘09 to thank her for the trip. Now, we all know that Yog is leaving (boo-hoo), so to thank him we got him a jumper from Kandersteg. He’s been section leader the whole time I was in Scouts, everyone elses as well, so thanks Yog. There were other awards, such as best of the worst dressed, which was won by Pacmule and L’il C. They both won T-shirts for 8-year old girls.

We are now leaving for Zurich in an hour or so, so this will probably be the last entry for a while.

Chocolate, Cheese & Cheap Suits

Today was Wednesday. Today we woke up early. Today we spoke in short, punctual sentences.

Tomorrow will be Thursday. Tomorrow we will wake up early. Tomorrow we will speak in short, punctual sentences.

Cock-a-doodle-doo, said Mo as we awoke. Today we went to the chocolate factory and a cheese factory (not to be confused with the chocolate and cheese factory).

The chocolate factory was first. After a 3 hour bus trip (went by like a flash) and a 10 metre walk from the carpark (very strenuous indeed), we were shown three educational films about chocolate. We got to taste the chocolate which was very tasty indeed but at right this moment I’m quite sick of writing this blog…

…now ten minutes later after that moment of writing Yog has forced me to continue the blog. We went on on the bus to the town where the cheese factory was (I can’t think of the name but it sounds a bit like a German trying to say Aberdeen). It was a quiet rural village – that is except for the giant HR Giger museum at the outskirts.

Seven Scouts entered.

None came back the same.

Next was the cheese factory. Not much sci-fi there at all..
